2004 Toyota Tundra Rear Differential Cover Replacement

2000 to 2006 Toyota Rear Diff Cover Replacement

Getting the Frame Ready for Welding

2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra rear differential covers are known to develop leaks. This is due to the fact that the welds around the cover can fail over time. If you are experiencing a leak from the rear differential cover, it is important to have it repaired as soon as possible. A leaking rear differential cover can lead to a loss of fluid, which can damage the differential and other components.

Step 1: Remove the Axle Unit from the Vehicle

The first step in replacing the rear differential cover is to remove the axle unit from the vehicle. This can be done by following the steps in the workshop manual. Once the axle unit is removed, you will need to remove the differential cover.

Step 2: Prepare the Frame for Welding

Once the differential cover is removed, you will need to prepare the frame for welding. This involves cleaning the area around the welds and removing any rust or debris. You will also need to grind down the welds around the cover to create a smooth surface for welding.

Step 3: Weld the New Differential Cover

Once the frame is prepared for welding, you can weld the new differential cover in place. Be sure to follow the instructions in the workshop manual carefully to ensure that the welds are properly made.

Step 4: Reinstall the Axle Unit

Once the new differential cover is welded in place, you can reinstall the axle unit. Be sure to tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
